What The Heck Is Wave Season

+ what's in it for you, where's the best deals, & more

Hello Grand Voyagers!

I left off last time introducing you to my most recent adventure around the Arabian Gulf on the MSC Euribia. Since then I’ve been bombarded with emails from the Cruise Lines about ‘wave season promotions’ and I’m assuming some of you have been subject to those emails too. So if you’re wondering what the heck that even means and what’s in it for you, I wanted to link you to a few helpful resources so that if you happen to be looking to book a Cruise anyway, you might as well leverage the current promotions available.

Wave Season unofficially begins every January 1 and typically runs through March. Virtually the entire industry participates in some fashion. Various cruise lines offer promotions ranging from discounts to extra perks like onboard credit or complimentary dining. It's like the extended Black Friday of cruises.

Wave Season is about booking cruises; it’s not necessarily about embarking on them. While you can generally find deals on imminent cruises, the best deals are often reserved for cruises that are months or even years away.

Cruise lines offer their best deals during Wave Season largely due to the advantageous timing. The holidays have just ended, and the new year (and new opportunities) lie ahead. Additionally, people tend to plan trips during family get-togethers around the holidays. November and December see millions of families get together to celebrate different holidays. People talk and plan; vacation ideas start to brew. Wave Season rides the wave of these conversations with timely deals too good to pass on.

Rather than list them all out here and bury you with options you may or may not be interested in, just get in touch with me for a cruise or expedition you’re thinking of taking and I’ll do a personalized search for you - no strings attached, no obligation to book with me :) Email me at: [email protected].

👉🏼 I do have a comprehensive list though to check out if you want to scroll through and get some ideas.

👉🏼 There’s even this handy-dandy quiz to figure out which cruise line is right for you!

Most cruise lines will honor price drops up until final payment so if you book something now and find a better deal later, in most cases you’re protected.

Speaking of protection - I highly recommend purchasing insurance especially if you’re booking far into the future so you can have peace of mind around cancellations after final payment is made. And for all the other reasons you want travel insurance…you know, for when things go sideways.

Personally I’m looking at purchasing an annual plan from Allianz this year as it’s more economical than purchasing separate plans each time I take a trip. I know Allianz may be more expensive than some of the others but I’ve heard that they actually pay out quickly and without a lot of back and forth on claims which is something I value.

I’ve also heard great things about Faye Whole Trip Travel Insurance which also covers cruises. You can get a quote here and see if it works for you.

If you want a custom quote for an Allianz annual travel plan, email me at [email protected] and I’ll get you one!

Bottom line of Wave Season is deals are abound if you want them!

And if you want to outsource planning to me, I’m happy to help 😄
